GRAN SCALA GIVES LIFE TO A DESERT

Here in Aragon, we are shocked. The project announced in press in recent days has become THE SUBJECT everyone talks about. It has been nicknamed Las Vegas II, as it plans to build up to 32 hotels, 5 themeparks, casinos, and many other leisure activities.

The land chosen resembles Nevada in the sense there is hardly population, that is scattered in little villages, with severe weather conditions, that is, extremely hot summers, and cold (but not extreme) winters.

I have to say that I was, too, reluctant when it came down to believing the project. I thought: "yeah, yet another project that will never see the light". However, when I started looking into it, and finding that international press was actually confirming those news I have read, I started to change my mind.

The local population, and by local, I would also include Zaragoza, (Saragossa) are really excited about it. We are a little bit reluctant too, as it would not be the first time something big is announce and then it falls into oblivion... It is the first time that all the political parties agree on such a project. (Well, there is a minority party who, in pre-campaign, is starting to be against, without real arguments... Nothing to worry about, I would say).

The area chosen, eventhough it is not clear EXACTLY where it is going to be, is going to be ideal for this type of place. Apparently, studies have been done in order not to affect natural protected areas.

Transportwise, new infrastructures will be needed, I would say, improvement of roads and High Speed Tracks to link with the rest of the network will be built. The new Saragossa Airport will be ready shortly and will be able to cater for extra air traffic.

We will know more details on the 12th December... CAN'T WAIT.

Yeah, ok, good post, but you miss some things:

1-This "minor party" is the third political force in the country.

2-No real arguments? there are plenty of them, stating with the fact that Los Monegros is a damned DESERT, so you will have to bring some "little" things like WATER, wich is not something that is planty in the zone (remember the word DESERT from before?). Sorry, perhaps i didn't recall this is a foreign-funded proyect, so the politicians won´t doubt in agree with everything while they make money from those companies.

I dont mind if they build the damn thing, but they should make things with extreme care, or it will only lead to pooring the neighbourding zones, making the desert bigger arround it and making the life in the surrounding towns a nightmare.

Thanks for your comments.

IU is not the 3rd political force in the country... Please check your data...

2) A desert, for you, should be condemned for life to stay as a desert? Water is the main problem, like in Murcia, for example, and this is not stopping them building golf course, residential estates ...

No matter where the project comes from, there are, and have been in the past many, people who don't have a way of living in this area. Why this is not going to give them a chance?

Ok, I understand that gambling is not the best of ways, but you have to realise that this country and continent has been devised lately to become a service area, rather than a producting area. Whether we like it or not, we have in front of us a project that not only is going to be beneficial to the local people, but to the region, as new infrastructure will be developped, hence, we will all profit from it.

Is it perfect? Probably it has its weakenesses, but all project has it. If you live in a city, it is very easy for you to say that it is horrendous, living in your house with central heating, running tap water, a choice of supermarkets around you, probably a car waiting for you in the carpark... (unless of course you are on of those riding a bike)... But if you live in the countryside, where neither agriculture nor lifestock is a way of living any longer... Therefore, the project is giving the chance to the people in the Monegros Desert to get a chance to improve their way of living.
